Description
How many times have you dreaded changing the oil on your Packard? Maybe it’s just me… but as a Packard owner, I can tell you I hated it. Not because the oil change itself was hard — but because of everything that came with it: dropping the oil filter canister, remaking and replacing gaskets on the lines, soaking the canister in kerosene, cleaning up the mess… it always turned into a bigger job than it needed to be. I even bought a reproduction-style canister that used a spin-on filter, thinking it would solve the problem. It didn’t. I still had to remove the canister, deal with the gaskets, and open it up while everything inside was soaked in oil. It was a royal pain. So… I built a better solution.
A Modern Spin-On Filter — Without Losing the Original Look
This oil filter conversion kit accepts a commonly available spin-on filter (WIX WL10068) while maintaining the original appearance of the Packard L6/L8 oil filter canister. The difference is the design: the clamshell housing opens up easily, allowing you to simply unscrew and replace the spin-on filter just like you would on a modern car. A proprietary internal oil manifold routes engine oil through internal passages to and from the modern filter — meaning:
✅ No more removing the canister
✅ No more remaking gaskets
✅ No more messy cleanup and soaking
Built to Last
All components are machined from billet aluminum and powder coated in a flat black wrinkle finish. It can also be powder coated in any color, or painted — your choice. The unit bolts directly to the original supply lines using four 5/16-24 bolts (not included) and can be mounted horizontally or vertically.
Custom Fit Available
This filter was modeled from a 1936 Standard 8 oil filter canister. I can modify the design to fit other vehicles as long as I’m provided:
-
Filter housing length
-
Input and output hole size + location
(these can be easily pulled from a gasket)
Made to Order
Lead time: approximately 4 weeks.
