Description

The springs wrapped around the brake drums of vintage cars serve the purpose of reducing noise by stabilizing the drum and minimizing vibrations during operation. These external coil springs, are manufactured from thin steel wire, and are stretched to fit snugly around the drum’s outer circumference.  These springs will fit a drum with an outer circumference of 46.25 inches. These springs with an un-stretched length of 42 inches will stretch to 46.25 inches with a 10% elongation, providing light pressure to reduce noise by stabilizing the drum.  The gentle pressure will prevent wobble or rattling that can cause squeaks, creaks, or hums. While not a standard feature on most vintage brake systems, such springs were often a custom or aftermarket addition aimed at noise dampening.  The un-stretched spring helps ensure a tight fit without excessive force, complementing internal return springs to keep the 14-inch drums quiet and efficient.

Other sizes can be ordered based on the overall circumference of the drum.
